a new Apple iPhone

I'd like to try OSX, preferably on an Intel system. I've never been an Apple user before, but after hearing so many good things lately - my interest has really been sparked. If you believe in Apple's quality - please convince me that it's true! I'm a student who cannot afford a new computer on his own. Thank you!
